Juvenile Defense

When a child is
charged with a crime

We understand the fears that arise when your child is charged with a crime. Juvenile delinquency is often a result of immaturity, which is why we'll advocate on your child's behalf to help ensure they can still achieve their full potential later on in life.

The most fulfilling work I do as an attorney and advocate is to help children. It is often their first contact with our justice system, so it is important to answer the child’s questions and put their fears at ease.

In Georgia, a minor, under the age of 17, charged with committing a delinquent act is brought before the Juvenile Court for an adjudication proceeding. There are options available to our Juvenile Court Judges, in both the pre-trial and post-trial phase, which are not available in our Superior Courts. I have the right experience to help parents navigate the juvenile court system. We go to great lengths, working together with both the parents and their child, to help them find alternative solutions for the child’s delinquency case.

Unlike our elected Superior Court Judges, our juvenile court judges are appointed and often serve for very long tenures. For that reason, our juvenile court judges receive special training on various alternatives when it comes to punishing a child for committing a delinquent act. My job, as your child’s attorney, is to help the minor child understand each step of the process.

Our young clients benefit from my knowledge and experience working in the juvenile court system. Many times, there are underlying issues which have caused the minor child to go off course. For instance, children and young adults are more susceptible to societal pressure. Also, scientific studies have shown that the adolescent brain is still forming and will continue forming well into your mid-twenties. For that reason, juvenile cases are and should be handled differently.

I have over 10 years of experience practicing in our juvenile court system. Over that time, we have been able to work collaboratively with the Department of Juvenile Justice to achieve outcomes for delinquency cases which leave room for our young clients to grow and mature while, at the same time, gaining a healthy respect for our courts and a full understanding of their constitutional rights and protections.
